ok. understand now. because venus is between earth and sun and as earth turns facing sun in the dawn, only part of venus is lit by the sun. The crescent venus is a partial lit venus with its own shadow!

O I see.
but what is causing the waxing? the shadow cant be earth right so what is it?

I'm guilty at charge as most often in forum-lurking mode... but proud owner of my pimped out galileoscope

quite disappointing! the sky is overcast.
luckily I can manage to catch it for the past 2 days even just with my toy-like galileoscope i'm truly mazed by it and its 4 satelites. my first planetary experience!
