actually hand shakiness varies a lot among individuals. it is possible to hold 12x50 binoculars and have a good view. I have a 15x70 binoculars which gives superb view but you need to rest your elbows on something.

in my opinion, with light pollution some extra magnification may be needed.

Amateur Astronomy is really fun if you take time to read up about it. You don't need very expensive instruments. In fact a good (and big) binoculars is a good start. We are fortunate to have lots of stuff in our skies because we can see both the northern and southern hemisphere skies. And the night ...

Departmental store scopes...those about 50mm aperture ones are hindered by the low quality Huygens eyepieces they supply and also the low quality/or lack of finderscope. if you can put a decent eye piece on these scopes, you can certainly see Saturn's ring and Jupiter's moons if you can aim correctl...

If you want to get a fun scope to bring everywhere, I recommend the Synta (Skywatcher) made 60mm spotting scope. It may be sold under different brands but the design is the same. You can zoom from 20-60x. And it cost about SGD100. The focussing and zoom ring is a bit plasticky but the lens is pretty...

I have a pair of 12x50 Nikon Action binoculars. I think the ability to hold the binoculars steady varies with the person and the binoculars. I am satisfied with this Nikon (and it has a tripod adapter too). It is better to sit down and with your arms close to your body, you can certainly handhold th...
