Re: Roll-Off Roof Observatory in Singapore

Just stumbled upon this thread and was thoroughly impressed, Joe! Incredible work. Was just wondering how it's been coming along since your last post? I've only been dreaming about doing something similar but never took the first step. Very nice of you to share the info!

Best regards!
Joo Beng.

Re: Comet Lovejoy Party + Equip Festival 2015!!! [10 Jan 201

Thanks Remus and the entire organizing committee for a great job well done! I really enjoyed catching up with "old" friends and making new ones. The atmosphere was electrifying and I was really sad to realize, by the end of the night (at 1am) that I didn't find time to make some rounds and...

Re: Total Solar Eclipse, 14 Nov 2012

Hi all,

Just to try to capture, and share the moment, I've published a video of the eclipse experience last November in the Pacific. Have a look and hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it (and re-living the experience!).

Re: Total Solar Eclipse, 14 Nov 2012

Here's a montage I made of the eclipse sequence as well as the ship that we were on. It's literally a whole city on the sea. Also just a general shot showing the eclipse "viewers" on deck at the time of the eclipse.

Best regards,
Joo Beng.

Re: Total Solar Eclipse, 14 Nov 2012

Hi Weixing, Yes, the ship does "rock" enough that you will definitely notice in an exposure more than about 1/200. Depends on the focal length of course. But for every shot, will need to re-centre before shooting because it goes out of frame in about half a second! Attached a photo of me a...

Re: Total Solar Eclipse, 14 Nov 2012

Thanks Gavin, Yes, an eclipse out on the open ocean is probably quite different, though maybe not better than from a flat desert since the view is bounded by the superstructure of the ship. And we were not very high up - about 11 floors, but still could not discern the approaching shadow. It just go...

Total Solar Eclipse, 14 Nov 2012

Experienced the Solar Eclipse on 14 Nov 2012 from somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, between Fiji and New Zealand on board a cruise ship called the Celebrity Millenium. It was a trip of a lifetime, and I decided on this approach owing to the eclipse path, giving us a viewing time of about 3 and a half ...

Re: Is that our dear Joo Beng?

Oops....gee... I'm afraid I totally missed this post (blush). Afraid I don't get to visit my favourite forum as much as I would like. Thanks everyone for the kind words, and thanks for the plug for Astro Bargains :-) Our common passion for the night sky (and for me now our closest star) has kept me ...

Re: Ultra-big-size Milky Way Mosaic

Hi Jiahao, Amazing image! Absolutely stunning, and world-class I would say! I was curious how you managed to upload such a large photo here...I always thought we were limited to only small photos :-) Other than that, agree with Gary...can you explain more of how you processed the images? Was there a...
