I am guilty too.

problem is that the sky's not encouraging interest, at least for me. AFAIK, the sky for the past half year was rotten in my part of the sky. Yes, 7 July was clear at 11am. But I was jogging..so missed it.

When clear skies returns, I am sure interest can be rekindled.

I believe it is not ground to the required precision. i.e. you will not get sharp images of pin points. Also, the optics would not be coated to remove chromatic aberrations. Many years ago, I used spectacle lens as objective. I experienced horrible CA.
