Re: Tabletop Alt-Az mount concept - incomplete project

Bought a pair of L bracket from Mr DIY store , cost SGD $3.90 for a pair , at JB it cost RM 8.90 (SGD 2.80) There are many different style L bracket at affordable price , for this design I slowly picked the set out of a dozen with least flaws at the critical welding point. Initially it seems alright...

Re: Tabletop Alt-Az mount concept - incomplete project

A little progress on what works and mistakes made. The wood in 19-20mm thickness plank format not strong enough to withstand drilling so many holes within a tight disk to stack 2 together. A single block of wood or plastic 35-45mm thick can reduce to only drill 1 center shaft (10-22mm dia) and 4 sad...

The colourless fault could be due to too low to horizon
if higher than 45 degree and around 150x mag still colorless then can move onto guessing other fault

Re: Beginner/Amateur Setup 2022

Ok what's done cannot be reverse .... small scratch or coin sized detachment of the mirror coating are no issue to the overall surface area , no worries some useful info here 1) the SCT corrector plate and primary mirror were matched at the factory , like how you stack 2 pringles potato chip togethe...

Re: Beginner/Amateur Setup 2022

Yup the eq1 is really just there for the sake of it , for the manufacturer to say it's a complete set , I don't think there is any headroom left for upgrade to bigger scope or astrophotography. Yes , the nexstar 6se and 8se use a bigger electronic mount compared to the 4se 5se , the difference is no...

Re: Anywhere/anyone in Singapore to do mirror recoating?

I don't remember any info on this regarding local Singapore. The machine as seen in photos years ago (other country) and now on youtube , is quite big the size of a washing machine or fridge. it pumps out the air into vaccuum state within the heavy steel container and have a heater below to melt the...

Tabletop Alt-Az mount concept - incomplete project

Post here to share my experience as recently these few weeks there were forumers looking to mount C90 mak and 5inch newt OTA. IMO if can bring down the cost of mount , the lower entry barrier will allow more to join this hobby. Maybe somebody can finish the idea and build something similar. This woo...

Re: Leaving mounts and scopes outside?

i remember reading in cloudynights forum 8years ago they found the inside of the cover to be wet even when no hole for rain to go in , it's the formation of dew water. It may not happen if you're backed against a wall which cover a substantial part of the skydome compared to 360 degree exposure and ...

EVA foam sheet degrade with age

Just to notify others who may be using the same material as it's cheap $2 dewshade cover for small scope and finderscope. I was moving and cleaning my setup after a few years of inactivity , to my surprise the eva foam sheet flake out tiny particles on my table and fingers , washing and scrubbing do...
