You can convert this to Alt-Az mode by flashing the firmware to OnStepX and changing the setting of the dip switches...

For satisfying planetary performance, I won't go for less than 7" aperture, my favourite scope was a Mewlon 180.
One day I'll own a Q3.5 too, to look at, not through...
