I've had a number of Tak and TeleVue refractors before. Like someone said, the paint job on the Taks are more delicate compared to the TV. Optically both are very good. A Macrostar would be a bit shaky. You will also need a very sturdy tripod. Preferably a wooden one that can absorb the vibrations. Maybe a Unistar is better.

Here is the US FAA rules: The maximum size carry-on bag for most airlines is 45 linear inches (the total of the height, width, and depth of the bag). Anything larger should be checked. Not sure if it applies to your airline- SIA? 23" is pretty long. Make sure the case is very thin, like a Tenba.

Vixen is coming up with a new Triplet! If I did my maths is correct it is near $3k US? Hope the focuser is more robust. From the looks of it the scope will be primarily visual.
