Re: Comet C/2014 Q2 from Changi Beach - 17 Jan 2015

Thanks Remus and Airconvent, there is one common thing in us (fellow Astro hobbyist), once bitten by the "Astro Bugs", will not be able to quit for life regardless of the variation in methods, approach & instruments used in enjoying this hobby. As pass few months were rainy season, i had switched to...

Comet C/2014 Q2 from Changi Beach - 17 Jan 2015

The comet C/2014 Q2 is setting earlier & earlier each day, caught it over a few nights in Tampines, Changi sea-side etc, but the one on 17 Jan 2015 looks slightly better Shooting Data: 210s (Av) X6 @ ISO 1600, Canon 550 D un-mod, combined, No Gaussian Blur for this one here (slight diff from F/B one...

Re: Catches from a Crash Trip: Mersing 16/1/15~18/1/15

Ivan, all your images are super nice, i now then believe that a faster system (bigger aperture scope at lower F ratio) under dark sky, produce much better images than a small refractor although the later is more resilient to light pollution in urban & sub-urban environment. Other elements are still ...

Very impressive Orion neb, good work John, i can in fact see the running man neb, i can see that you are quite an innovative person, like Ivan (me ? no lah, retiring :D )

Re: Helix - Weak signal recovery, see Nothing at 1st

Thanks Mariner, yah, a lot of difference after combining the sub-exposures. "Screen stretch" of individual sub may not be useful unlike a "Log stretch". For a wide dynamic range object such as Andromeda Galaxy performing "Log Stretch" to each subs before combining them will definitely bring out more...

Helix - Weak signal recovery, see Nothing at 1st

Helix Nebula has a low surface brightness and therefore is a relatively challenging object or weak signal unlike bright nebula like Orion Neb, Eta Carina etc. Need to collect as much light frames at the longest attainable exposure time, stretch each subs & then combined them together (using 2013 Aug...

Re: Veil & North America Neb from Tampines

Oh, btw this Canon 500D that i used for Nebula is already IR filter glass replaced, i bought it from Shirox, thinking of selling it off to get a Cooled one even though i already have a DIY cooler (too lazy to improve on it, in fact i spoiled it [smilie=beaten.gif] , sorry Kelvin ..)

Re: Veil & North America Neb from Tampines

I think so too Orly, but doing Cooled CCD in Narrow band required much longer data acquisition time, may not be well supported by our weather condition here, DSLR will produce good results for bright nebula and clusters and some brief outline for Mag 14.9 galaxies here for 1 hour accumulation of 2 m...
