Re: Back focus

I hope this explains. Kochu/7-6-11 http://www.celestron.com/c3/support3/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=2217 Thanks Kochu for your reply. That was helpful. I'm looking at a refractor with 230mm back focus. So that should mean lots of accomodation to include focus reducer, flat...

Long back focus

This is going to be a very basic question for a newbie like me looking for a telescope. I read in an article of a telescope having a 'long back focus".

What does that mean and why is it good??: )

I use Star Walk. Its a good program and cost only US$1.99. You can point it towards the sky and it will tell you what you are seeing. Alternatively you can program what you want to see and the program guids you by telling you how to move your iphone. Excellent program in my opinion for $1.99.

I think any scope can do AP just to how much details and clarity you want. The VMC200 definately can do AP and visuals well enough for SG skies and will perform better in MY. A second hand VMC OTA will set you back around $1000 with shipping. For R200S you can consult Weixing cos i think he has one...

I had a VMC200L from Vixen. Good views with 2" visual back. can consider that also Is that good for AP as well? I saw a Vixen R200S. Which is a better scope? Vixen scope comes at a premium that I wonder if its really worth the extra $$. Anyone has experience with the various types to enlighten? I a...

Read your post on the fixing of the RA gears. I'm looking at a LXD75 and am concerned when I read about the meshing issues.

You mentioned it can be fixed easily. Is it something you can do yourself or you need to go to a vendor in Singapore to get it fix?

Appreciate your reply. Thks.
