Re: "New" Obby!

Yes glad that it is back! :)
This will be a scope that I will keep for a long long time. I must say that the wood work and smooth control of Obsession still remains as it is; a testament to the quality of the plywood and protective coating. Now with upgraded optics. :)

"New" Obby!

Last year May, there was a huge fire in my house, and my poor "Obby" (my 12.5" Obsession Dob's name) got burned by the flames. My mom's house, was pretty wracked by the fire and most of the items that were made of plastic melted. http://imageshack.us/a/img17/5193/p1080719.jpg 'artistic' aircon: http...

Observing at South Western Australia

Recently, my family and I made a trip Down Under to visit friends at Perth and to have a holiday in South Western Australia. At the start of the trip it was bad weather! It kept raining for 1 week continuously and even hailed! First time I have experienced hail in my life. When the hail came it soun...

Re: Stargazing at Yosemite National Park

I have been to Yosemite to observe before years ago. I must say it is extremely clear and probably one of the best observing sites! I used my then C5 and the ring nebula looked better through it then my 12.5 inch dob in Malaysian skies! No exaggeration... It is something I remember. Looking through ...

Re: horsehead seen last night...Sedili ob report

Thanks Richard that we had quite a good night. Although we were hampered with haze/ high altitude clouds, we did manage to catch details in many of the galaxies. The spiral shape and dark lanes were pretty easy to see in the 15". Also, this was the first time I saw the horsehead directly and with so...

Re: horsehead seen last night...ob report

Hi Richard,

If I don't stay in the resort is it ok? Will there be an 'entrance fee' to do the observing? Will you guys be staying overnight?

Also, my car can put in 2 people if I am bringing my 12.5" dob or 3 people if I am bringing my small grab and go refractor.

Re: Observing Satellites

If it is white color and bright on the western sky in the evening then it is Venus.

Re: To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

Hi, I would think you should place a lot of emphasis on portability or transportability and setup time. My 12.5" truss dob is fully assembled and placed on a hand truck; it can be disassembled and placed onto 1 trolley and it is very manageable by one person (been doing that for 6 years already).. T...
