Binoculars and lightning

Hi all,

Beginner question here - I was looking at the moon just now with my binoculars. Away to the South, I saw lots of lightning. I was wondering if I accidentally saw the lightning through the binos, would it damage my eye?

Re: Astro session at Perth region dark sky site - 21 April 2

Very nice! Thank you!! I now know that the cluster of stars that I saw the other day was the Southern Plaides. And when I looked a little vertically upwards, I saw a small cloud-like 'thingy'. I was using only a pair of binoculars, so I couldn't be sure if that was the open cluster or the Eta Carina...

Amazing pictures and write-up! There goes the rest of my day :)

Do you think you could put some arrows and labels on the pictures, to help us newbies? I feel this is much more helpful than the star-charts and software that I use.

I'm tremendously fascinated by the transporters of ALMA - Otto and Lore. They remind me of Giant Robot - remember him? :D

Right you are! The screw comes off. I think I'll go get a monopod/tripod.
Thanks a lot.

And yeah, I'm already getting used to looking weird :)

Binos - Celestron Outland 8x42

Hi all, I just bought this pair of binoculars. The image is very clear and crisp. I'm totally enjoying the journey of learning my way across the sky. However, I have a newbie question - the binoculars shake a lot. Is it because of the binoculars or my lack of strength? It doesn't look like these bin...

Re: Mike test

Once again, thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah, waiting for a sidewalk astronomy event. I see there's one in Bishan park this Saturday, but sadly I won't be in town. Meanwhile, I still don't see my other posts appearing. Do I consider them "not worthy" or "in process"? :) Just che...
