Re: Passing of Peter Smitka
Oh man.... I believe I was the first guy to bring a Portaball into SGP more than a decade back. Back then, it wasn't easy to figure out shipping and freight forwarding to bring this to SGP. It comes in a big drum barrel, and you can't go through a normal courier for that. Pete was always there suppo...

Re: Gravity Movie - opening 10 Oct 2013! Sneak peeks 4 - 6 O
Just watched this at Shaw Lido IMAX 3D. Absolutely amazing! Will be good if nobody reveal spoilers. Other than the official trailer to convince you how good the visuals are, don't go and read up too much about this movie. It will spoil the fun for you. Yes, IMAX 3D ticket is expensive. But if you r...

Gravity the movie......awesome!
This must be the most awesome 3D movie I have ever seen so far. Gravity is simply brilliant in its camerawork and visual efffects, you will feel right there in space! make sure you watch it 3D, and IMAX if possible. Then sit back and be awe by space, but at the same time fearful of the solitude and ...

Re: a 15" Obsession Ultra Compact
Thankfully with a 16" f/4.5, that secondary is out of reach for most kids :) Don't bet on that! Parents would normally lift their kids to the eyepiece for them to peek and guess where their little hands will rest onto? Normally the eyepiece...but if the secondary mirror is within reach, you wi...

Re: a 15" Obsession Ultra Compact
The 15" UC Obsession this is probably a very nice dob not too big and so simple to setup. have to get a chance to peek into an obession at least once... [smilie=admire2.gif] My biggest problem with the UC design (and the Hubble Optics Compact) is that the secondary mirror is located outside of...

Re: Dubai Astronomy Group (Video)
Nice..well guess we have to deal with the kind of weather we are dealt with.. I find it abit strange that as the light pollution worsens in sg, more schools , institutions have observatories built, kind of defeats the purpose? So we must not rely on schools and institutions alone to promote astrono...

Re: Dubai Astronomy Group (Video)
I was in Dubai 3 years ago, the desert environment really makes it great for astronomy.
And the people there are buying Ferraris like buying toys.
Perhaps should get hold of Mr. Hasan and ask him to buy some land in Spore and make it only for astro use??

Re: Ioptron ZEQ25GT mount?
Dave,
Those are great photos! How many minutes were the exposure of those photos? And what is the AP setup that you use?
For a 4.7kg mount head, that is pretty impressive.

Ioptron ZEQ25GT mount?
Anyone here has tried the Ioptron ZEQ25GT mount? https://www.ioptron.com/images/up/ZEQ25_2013.jpg Saw many good reviews on the tracking accuracy and most importantly, this is probably the first mount I heard that is design for 0 degrees latitude, so no pier is needed. The mount head weighs only 4.7k...
