Re: To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

You will see much more DSOs in one clear night in Johor using a smaller SCT than you will ever see in Singapore in one year using a bigger SCT. Base on memory alone, I think there are less than 4 really clear nights in Singapore for the whole of 2011. Even during those clearest few nights, the visu...

Re: Ordering stuff from online:

Hi there, It's actually quite a fun yet complicated process if you want to "save" on the total costs. These folks do international and have good customer service. High point scientific can only send to a Paypal verified address and do not accept CC. BTW, I think if you use Maybank Credit c...

Re: Grab n Go with a 6" f6.5 Alt Az setup.

Haha....sorry I meant Richard. Well it's not that it's not smooth, i'd be ok to use the AR152 without counterweights.....last Thursday I tracked Saturn at 150X happily, no issue. I mean hey, with the diagonal this is a 1.2m long bugger and loaded with the ES82 30mm it is 13.5kg. C11 bare O...

Re: Grab n Go with a 6" f6.5 Alt Az setup.

Hi, By the way, is the scope in balance position or this is a quick setup for photo taking? My 6" F5 is front heavy, so the mounting point is near the main lens. Have a nice day. It is actually in a balanced position. I can move the dovetail around because it is the Losmandy Universal dovetail...

Hey btw, do let me know (PM?) of the Toa Payoh sidewalk sessions by Gary. I think that one is near to the main road, cab accessibility is good. Could be ok.

Re: Grab n Go with a 6" f6.5 Alt Az setup.

Hi guys, Thanks and I am definitely open to suggestions, as some may have better ideas. :D There is actually a specialised ADM counterweight solution for such Alt-Az mounts, it is actually pointing “the other way” as compared to this Losmandy VW coz it is not a clamp but a mini dovetail that fits in...

Re: Grab n Go with a 6" f6.5 Alt Az setup.

Here it is, this is the new ES AR152 with the longer dewshield. And I got the 9" pier extension so no issue with the big ES100 14mm or ES82 30mm. http://www.pbase.com/weddings_events/image/142310665/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/weddings_events/image/142310667/original.jpg http://www.pbase....

Re: Grab n Go with a 6" f6.5 Alt Az setup.

Yeah will try to get pictures. I did a second run just now and could feel the strain, not lower back but upper back. Luckily the main ob site is just nearby, just 30m of total walking distance. But to be safe for the back i think would break up into 2 trips on the roof. I cannot use those trolleys t...

Re: Jupiter and Venus?

Yeah no problem with the rings and the shadow of the planet on the rings. The AR152 is surprisingly sharp. I could only detect a slight hint of Saturn's cloud bands but not very clearly/contrasty so i am not sure if that is due to slightly out of collimation or due to seeing. I'll try to see if the ...
