Re: Good Viewing Locations in Singapore

There is a best viewing location that everyone can easily enjoy. And that is a window seat on a aircraft @ 39000 ft (typically) at night. The eyes are easily eye adapted after 30 mins - 1hr, and you see everything and I do mean everything. Absolutely mind boogling. And you can even view stuff right ...

Re: Alfred quoted by MyPaper about Solar Flare impact on SG!

Power for SG not a big issue I guess. Stuff like GPS affects a lot of us. Air travel etc. Next time we won't be that lucky. All these issues with raising sea levels, changing weather patterns.... and particularly OVER RELIANCE on technology, i think we are somewhat living on "borrowed time"...

Re: Beginner help!

Yes Gary, a good pair of binos is good. 20X is not that much but seriously good enough for starhopping. You don't need no GOTOs and stuff. Alas we are not in a dark site (i suppose green/blue is good). Even a pair of 7 x 50 shows crazy amounts of stuff in a grey site in Riau called Pulau Tebbingting...

Re: H-Alpha Telescopes

I'd have to post this warning of CaK. Anything below 450nm gets pretty bad quickly for our eyes. A 400mW 405nm laser can have less visual punch than a 10mW 532nm. But trust me it stings much more. :D Baader's CaK filter is 395nm with a FWMH of 8nm, technically UV-A. So it's basically for photo obser...

Re: Beginner help!

How about a pair of nice binos? Esp if you already have a photo tripod. This one is quite light. Check CN forums, it's pretty well regarded, better than the Celestron etc..stuff. Email them for shipping price, but should be in the usd75 range thereabouts. https://www.garrettoptical.com/Garrett-20x80...

Re: Good Viewing Locations in Singapore

Hi there, For me it's quite the opposite....i actually wanted to get a scope as far back as 1997 but due to lack of funds so scrapped it. Later got car hence wanted to buy in 2000/2001, but Jurong Island closed due to terrorist attack. :D Now no car, but figured that the Sky Park @ rooftop is nice a...

Re: Mounting for Explorer Scientific ED127

Hi Weixing, just wondering...which F5 refractor do you have? Celestron 150? (just wondering, i am thinking you have much better goodies hahaa :D ). Thanks....so the moon is also good. Well for Jupiter, i guess i'll just skip it or more like for casual ob (still not a problem though). Ok folks, how w...

Re: Mounting for Explorer Scientific ED127

Hi, Congrats on the purchase. I initially want to get this scope also, but the 10kg weight scare me off... ha ha ha  See you got a 1.25" variable polarizing filter which can be very useful for fast achro refractor viewing of the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter at high power if your Baader Fr...

Re: Mounting for Explorer Scientific ED127

Just as an aside, I find that generally its cheaper to use comgateway and there's tracking at every step of the way as well. I've shipped in a Vixen SXD, VMC200L, Orion 110ED, a 100ED, an 80ED, misc eyepieces and parts, all no issues. The most comparable shipping was on the 4" refractor inside...
