After a few months of not bringing out my 12.5" Obsession dob (a.k.a "Obby"), I finally got the chance last night. My target was Jupiter, which is my most favourite planet. Checking the satellite images, there were no high clouds over Singapore but a little haze. Checking also with th...

@ Gary I don't understand what you are saying. My reply is to the OP. This was to give him my experience with my scope which is of very similar design and dimensions as the Tak 90. It may not be a Tak but nevertheless it's performance will be close. This gives him or her an idea of it's capability a...

Hmm.. attempted to view the comet 2 hours ago. Could not really confirm if I saw the comet or was it very faint stars through my G&G refractor and bino. Due to the haze, the dim stars were a bit diffused.

Much has been said. Just to add, I own an 88mm WO doublet refractor. It's quality is quite good and would be pretty close to the Tak. This is my secondary scope. IMO such a small scope is good for wide fields observation of open clusters and double star observing in Singapore. In dark skies it can b...

I use both Quickfinder and Telrad, and IMO the Telrad is much better as it has far less parallax (easily half, I measured it) that of the Quickfinder; which means the reticle does not shift as much as your head position moves. Also, it has the 4 deg circle which makes it easier to starhop from brigh...

WTS : Left-handed Golf Set

I have a left-handed golf set that I need to sell. It is my dad's. The golf bag is Wilson brand and the golf clubs are Mizuno and model name is Zephyr. In total there are 12 clubs. The entire set has only been used a couple of times and cost more than $1k when bought new. Selling the entire set for ...

Generally speaking in Singapore it is very hard and unsatisfying to view nebulae and galaxies with telescopes. Unless you go to Malaysia where the skies are darker. The light pollution is so bad that it washes off these objects and no matter how large the telescope, will not help. However, if you ha...

@Canopus: Thanks for sharing such a great sighting! Something for us to look forward to. My best lucky view so far is a satellite drifting past NGC 6231 while testing a rich field telescope on 13 April. No details can be seen though but it is an amazing seeing one for the very first time through th...

Nice! In the last few decades of observing, I had seen satellites, plane and even a distant bird transit across a planet while observing. Another interesting effect is when you observe a meteor shooting directly at your line-of-sight. I have seen that naked eye, through binoculars and through a tel...
