Its the Orion Nebula. The gas surrounding the stars are Hydrogen gas excited by the host stars. That makes the 'light spreading'.

VinSnr: Guide for 5min? Sad to say, i have done any serious drift alignment training for myself. But will do soon!

No, Mcgill is not a shop in Lucky Plaza. Check them out at www.mcgill.com.sg. From what i know, TP doesnt have any Astronomy Club. So Lone ranger, planning to start one in your school?

Of course, its weather permitted. =p

Normally, we can see stars up to mag. of 4-6 on very good seeing.
For now we are able to see the constellations from Lyra to Orion region.

Well, i'll recommend u to start off with binoculars if you have'nt grasped much about the night skies. A good pair of binos will really turn out to be an eye-pleaser and a good learning tool. For a student like you, why not get a binos first and familiarize yourself to the night skies, then when you...

The results speaks for themselves. ArgH! Gonna ditch my CP4500 for THE 300D! :lol: Will keep a look for your results on longer exposures! maybe 30mins or more?
