Yeah. I guess it's one thing to plan, but another thing to overplan. Agree with superiorstream - it sometimes doesn't lend to be too friendly. Also agree with timatworksg - I always make it a point to know where the emergency exits are on a plane (having worked on one, it's like occupational hazard ...

Good to hear you made a barndoor too!

I'm probably gonna start with a manual one but was wondering where I would buy a synchronous timer in Singapore for the 1rev/min motion. Wondering if it can be found at SLT.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Did the shot stacking 10 shots at 1.5secs each. Anything more and I start to get star trails.... thinking of building my own barndoor tracker :P

And what's with all the cloudy nights these days!! :(

Well, collimation is definitely slightly off, just from line of sight. Not possible to take a photo down the tube though, it just blocks off all light when my camera looks down the barrel.

Looks almost like fine layer of mould over the primary mirror. May look into taking it out for a wash.

Yeah, I did some testing on objects opposite my block.

It's ok, all works but seems to be a bit "grainy" (like taking photos on ISO1600 or something).

Not sure if it's because of the eyepieces or the secondary/primary mirrors are dirty (it does look pretty smudgy looking down the barrel).

Yeah, I guess you all covered my worries :) It's more like crimes of opportunity that's the concern - someone sees a person sitting alone in the dark with a telescope or with a DSLR, it's like setting oneself up to be bait... but of course, I know that if I let this concern rule my life, then might ...

Just borrowed an Optisan Star 70076

As topic says, just borrowed my brothers Optisan Star 70076 reflector. Cloudy nights so far so nothing much to see. Anyway, this is how it looks like and what it comes with: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/johnlim/Astrophotography/IMG_8401.jpg 02 Barlows (2.0 and 1.5) http://i7.photobucket.com...

Yup, that's the one. Can't find any user manual, so pretty much fixed it up based on logic. I've got some questions regarding it, which I'll be posting in the Equipment subforum.

Stargazing in open fields

There's a plot of empty land just opposite my block. Next to it is the famous Block 85 Bedok North market. I've been wanting to go down there with my camera and deck chair to shoot the night sky, but been putting it off cos I'm worried if it'll be exactly "safe" - especially if I'm alone. ...
