WTB Cheap Achromat 80-120mm type

Hello! I'm looking for a lightweight and cheap achromat of between 80-120mm to use as a solar scope (with solar filter, of course!) As a price point I'm thinking of maybe 100-150ish for the 80mm and of course more for the larger apertures. I'm not fussy as long as the optics are fine and the mechani...

Re: Nikon D810a DSLR for astrophotography officially announc

That's really interesting except that it costs almost $1000 more than the base price! The "normal" D810 is about USD3K at retail. Which begs the question if its a better idea to buy a "normal" camera and then spend the top up for a dedicated CCD that has cooling, which drasticall...

Checking Interest: Skywatcher 130p Table Top Dobsonian $250

Wife is badgering me to clear space, especially telescopes which take up a lot of volume and are barely used. I'm thinking of selling my Skywatcher Heritage 130p Dob ( http://store.mcgill.com.sg/index.php?id_product=9&controller=product ) Its been barely used since I refurbished it: The original...

Deal Alert - Meade 9mm Illum. reticle

https://www.astronomics.com/meade-9mm-1-25-inch-plossl-illuminated-reticle-eyepiece-cord_p3863.aspx If anyone is looking for an illuminated reticle EP this is one of the cheaper deals. Only problem is that you'll either need a Meade mount to power the illuminator or you'll need to re-solder the wire...

Orion Widefield with DSLR and Lens

Here's my humble contribution :) Its been a long time since I shot anything due to time constraints but on a recent holiday at a farmstay in Australia, I managed to sneak in a few shots with an unmodified DSLR and a 70mm lens at f3.2. Subs of 1-2 mins each and total integration time of about 1 hr. S...

Re: What kind of AZ mount fits my C5

Hello and welcome! C5 is a reasonably light scope and many Goto Alt-az mounts will handle the C5, although it'll be at the limit for some of the lighter duty ones. Celestron's own Nexstar mounts are reasonable alternatives and I personally use a 5' Mak (similar but heavier than your C5) on a Skyprod...

Re: Dovetail bar, why do we need it?

Essentially dovetail bars are a universal means of convenient quick attach and release, with the ability to balance the scope. Without them, each telescope must be manufactured to fit a particular mount, which is much like saying each camera has its own specific model of tripod. Yes you can attach y...

WTB: Vixen Dovetail

Hello! I'm looking for a vixen style dovetail, preferably short. If you have one to sell, I'll be quite happy to buy it for a reasonable price.
Thanks!

Re: Newbie here

APS-C has an image diagonal of about 30mm so an imaging circle of 45mm will fill it just fine. Having said that, light flats are always useful because there will be some degree of vignetting. Even if this is mild, it will make the center of your photo look hazier than it needs to be as the stacking ...
