Re: My little window...

It's amazing what a clear night can produce, even if it's only 20 x 30sec frames (or 10 minutes) My proudest Eta Carinae so far (although I still seem to get quite a bit of flare off the right, which I had to crop off http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/johnlim/Astrophotography/NGC%203372%20Eta%20...

Re: My little window...

Kimo

I'm using the Celestron CG-4 with RA motor.

Since my scope is the Astrotech AT66ED, with Canon EOS 1000D attached, its less than 3kg with the Mount capacity of 9kg.

Re: My little window...

When a single 30-sec frame gives you this much details, you know you're in for a good night! :D

Re: Thoughts on Orion SkyQuest XT6 Dobsonian

Nice find Hardwarezone!

I searched Amazon for the other one with Beginner Scope and didn't find any shipping specs under the FAQs.

Guess you're smarter!

EDIT: Ouch, that shipping looks scary if it's really 63 inches x 24 x 24!

Re: Thoughts on Orion SkyQuest XT6 Dobsonian

Its kindda hard to find any site that lists it's shipping specs to calculate the volumetric weight. THE BELOW ARE JUST MY ESTIMATES However, we can deduce the following: 1. Optical Tube - 115cm 2. Optical Diameter - 15cm We can then assume the Tube packaging to be roughly 118cm x 18 x 18 The base is...

Re: My little window...

yes nice. why not you add about an hr exposures, it will create decent image of it. I am waiting for testing RGB Imaging tonight but sky still not yet opened. Yeah, I know I should lol. But these days due to work and part-time studies, I'm shooting from my flat and Eta is actually only available fo...

Re: My little window...

Anyway, going through the Lights for my Eta Carinae, realised a few of them actually had very thin high clouds passing over them, so removed, restacked and re-processed. Personally, I think this is a better result than the one above: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/johnlim/Astrophotography/NGC...

Re: My little window...

do you take darks? How do you match CMOS dark Temp with Exposure? Yeah, I usually take Darks, Bias and Flats, at least 1/2 the number of Lights, 100% if time allows, so 20 Light Frames I'd try to get between 10 - 20 Darks, Bias and Flats. Stack them all in DSS, tweak a little of the RGB, Luminosity...

Re: Advice for first telescope

I absolutely agree with Clifford60. Where possible, attend any of the sidewalk astronomy sessions to meet the folks and ask questions about their equipment - i.e. - Why they chose Alt-Az or EQ? - Why not the other? - What can X scope do or cannot do? - How they transport their gear? - Have they been...
