Re: Stars and Zodiacal Light: Mersing Trip report(22-24 Aug2
Here is an image of the zodiacal light, taken at 5:09am local time. This was the confirmation image that confirmed it was the (white) zodiacal light rather than (greenish) airglow. Canon EOS 60D, 10s tripod mounted, ISO 3200. Samyang 16mm f/2.0 manual lens (probably at f/2.0) We saw the zodiacal lig...

Re: Crescent Nebula from Jurong West
Excellent image, Kochu!
And thanks for the info about the nebula. I've not seen it before and will try next time I'm at a dark sky site.

Yes, the 2nd night (Sat 23 Aug 2014) at Telok Sari was one to remember. I've been to Telok Sari / Mersing for astronomy perhaps 30/40+ times over the last 15 years, and that night was definitely in the top 10%. I would rate it at 9/10 or 9.5/10 by Mersing standards . At about 7.50pm, when it was sti...

Re: Spectacular Morning Planetary Conjunction with Beehive
You're right, Richard!
Unfortunately it was totally cloudy this morning, and I could not see the two planets. Had waited from 6.00am to 7.00am.
Tomorrow morning they would be further apart (about 1 deg), and I might try again.

Re: Comet C/2014 E2 (Jacques)
I managed to image Comet C/2014 E2 (Jacques) this morning from my bedroom window in Singapore city, at about 6:15am. The comet was then in the constellation Camelopardalis (just 'below' Perseus) in the northeast, about 30+ deg above the horizon and 15 deg to the 'left' (west) of the bright star Cape...

Re: Comet C/2014 E2 (Jacques)
I can report that Ivan and I managed to view Comet C/2014 E2 (Jacques) on the morning of Sat 26 July 2014 at about 5.45am, from Mersing district, Johor. We were there as part of Remus' astro expeditions group. We viewed the comet in the eyepiece of my Skywatcher 120mm ED refractor at 45x. We also vi...

Re: Revolutionary New Product from First Light Optics!
Fantastic, if it really works! Looks like they took on my idea, haha. I proposed such a device back in 2008, with a targetted product date of 2012: http://www.singastro.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6200&p=48433&hilit=+cloud+device Assuming this Cloud Gun works, I wish they don't make i...

Re: Mersing trip report: 30 May - 1 June 2014
As promised, here are some photos taken during the trip at the observing site. The first 4 images were taken by me, all single shots with a Canon EOS 60D and a Samyang 16mm f/2.0 ED lens, on a tripod. Typically at ISO 1600, 15s, f/2.0 or f/2.8. The last image was taken by Grey Chen (JY). It's a pano...

Hi Rich, actually Proxima Centauri (alpha Centauri C) is a very wide 2.2 degrees away from the 'A' and 'B' components (which are only 4 arcsec from each other, so perhaps that's what you were thinking of?). http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Centauri At mag 11, Proxima Centauri should be visible f...
