Re: iPhone 5 image of Jupiter
Ha I cheated by using a novagrade universal smart phone adapter coupled to a 7mm nagler eyepiece. Anyway to hold handheld is extremely difficult ... Must be a sniper to do that. However, with this adapter the phone is rigidly mounted to the scope. I still had to chase the planet looking through the ...

iPhone 5 image of Jupiter
Image of Jupiter taken @ 260x afocally through my 12.5" Dob. Stacked 100 frames and NO TRACKING. First time try. :) http://postimg.org/image/jq4jmiy0t/ Noting that the actual visual image presented through my scope is many times better, guess there is no substitute for pure visual bliss of plan...

Cool. I also caught the double shadow transit and the GRS (which is rare, last I saw was many years back); which I did not plan ahead (never checked Sky Safari before hand)… just so happen! Had an awesome view of my favorite planet through my 12.5" scope and shared it with my SO.

Re: Comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy): 4th mag in late Dec / early J
Got your heads up and went out to view with 10x50 Fujinon binoculars, 88mm refractor and 60mm refractor. It was obvious in the 10x50 being a glowing ball, something like a globular cluster without the stars. With the refractors I could make out the brighter portion and notice the elongation (with ar...

Re: Largest effective aperture wrt seeing
Frankly I do not think there is a limit in 'seeing' in Singapore as the 'seeing' is considered pretty good here due to the fact we are at the equator and the planet is able to rise to zenith; with my 12.5" the minimum (typical) magnification I use is 320x and on good nights depending on targets...

Wow! You are suffering from aperture fever.
I see if I have chance to go down and take a peek. Got to settle my children to bed first.

I have a 32mm Televue Plossl if you want to test, though it will the smallest of the pack. Ha.
