Actually.. if you own a car.. a dob can fit easily if you are willing to sacrifice the back seat. For the size and weight of a dob.. it is not much of a difference with those telescopes with tripods and counter weights and host of other things to carry. The dob has a stand which can be carried with ...

The skies are usually blue ( I mean real blue.. no clouds at all) during summer. The night sky is more or less guaranteed to be good unlike in South East Asia where the sky is very unpredictable. Hey... dobs are good. I own the Orion XT8 scope (modified with better finders) and it is very simple to operate and has good optics. Also setting up is many times faster than all those go-to or scopes mounted on tripods. Also I feel the fun part of astronomy is finding the objects yourself and not r...

Yup I agree with you. I had the chance to look through a 12inch dob during a starparty in USA, and the visual image is breathtaking. If you look at those puny telescopes.. u will have problems trying to identify what object is that as it just look like a fuzzy ball. The bigger the aperture, the bett...

A red dot finder actually came from those bb gun target sights. It has a glass plate and a red point is projected onto it. This makes it seem like a 'laser sight' when you point the the telescope to find objects. A telrad is different, it has 3 concentric circles as the 'targetting system'. It acts ...
