Re: Finder for a bino

It is not necessary to have a finder for a binoculars because its Field of View is already very wide. You can use a iPhone with astronomy app that allows compass and inclination. 'Point' the iPhone towards a bright star or planet and from there the astronomy app will tell you which star/ planet it i...

Re: Hubble Optics 16" f/4.5 UL Dobsonian - thoughts anyone?

Hmm.. never read any review or seen any pictures of this scope before. If you were to take on this route, it will have its risks in terms of optical quality, stability of the design, movements of the dob (not all dob move smoothly), vibration and ease of assembly and collimation (including stability...

Re: To DOB or not to DOB

"But to ask: How to DSOs look through a 12" Will it be significantly different from my 8"? And will I actually get to see some nebulosity in Singapore other than M42/M8?" I used to have a 8" Orion dob and found it very good optical performance and highly bang for the buck; i...

Re: What do you guys use for dew control?

If you are observing for about 2h in Singapore.. usually it is not necessary to have a heater/ heat pack. It is necessary to have a dew shield for the refractor or Cass though and it has the extra benefit of preventing stray light from street lamps from entering the objective lens. For the telrad fo...

Re: Advice on getting new telescope

16" is a very big and heavy scope. The pictures tend to show them 'smaller'. However a 16" will be pretty powerful instrument for planetary and for DSO. However, do note that extended dim objects like galaxies and nebulae will still not be seen well in Singapore despite the increase in ape...

Ha. Dob rules (visually) in Singapore. :P Especially with our 'stable' temperature, there is really no need to 'cool' the scope. It works out of the box after standard cheshire/ laser alignment of the mirrors.

I don't use such weather stations, however, I constantly monitor the satellite images around our regions. http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/48698.html Wunderground has quite a high frequency of updates.. in few minutes interval and I found it one of the most reliable source of weather info...

Good that you also managed to catch Jupiter. :) Now that Jupiter is progressively rising earlier, I guess I will catch it more often now...
