How to Estimate Limiting Magnitude in Singapore?

Hi guys Just curious. what do you estimate is the limiting magnitude of the skies in Singapore? From my own observation, I think its around mag 3. There has been some differing opinion even in this forum of what magnitude can be seen from sg skies (the disparity can be from mag 2 to mag 4.5). This I...

Re: Position on Light Pollution in Singapore

Hi Wei Xing Thanks. I would probably do just that. But I think the spin will be to position that we are not against lighting per se, but to encourage the right government organizations to put more thought into proper lighting that will keep lights directed to the ground and shaded. The effort contin...

Re: Position on Light Pollution in Singapore

Thanks Antares. Even though the response from NEA was short and non-consequential. The point was to get a message across. It still takes folks like us who love the night skies to continue our concerted effort! Mariner, yes NEA is definitely focus on mozzies..and rightly so (I just recovered from den...

Position on Light Pollution in Singapore

Hi all Recently, I decided to write to NEA to find out what is their position on light pollution and how are they addressing this issue. It seems that this issue is not even on their radar and there are not even caps to stop the increase of LP. I have put up the email and also NEA response for your ...

Re: To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

Hi all I am taking the plunge. [smilie=hell-yes.gif] I have decided on the C11 with Minitower Pro. I have made this decision after checking 3 sources: 1) Local vendor, Star Optics which I had purchased the MPro. ( btw, great support from Robin!) 2) I-optron support US. 3) 3rd party Ioptron vendor in...

Re: To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

Hi all I just written to Ioptron and this is their response: Payload wise, it should be OK. But you need to pay attention to the center of gravity of the mount since your C11 is way off the MT Pro center. It has to be well balanced. Thank you for choosing iOptron products. Tech2 Your Tech Support Te...

Re: To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

Hi Andeelym Heart is saying c11. Everything else says 9.25 or below. Btw, the payload capacity says 33lbs for M Pro. I have tabulated the C11, with 2inch Naglers, powermate, diagonal will come up to 32 lbs. The mount should still work properly and tracking accurate, right? I already have an 8 inch f...

Re: To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

Hi all Thanks, I really need the advice. I had the CPC9.25 ( Fork mounted version) before and it was 26kg for the ota and mount alone [smilie=bleeding.gif] . The c11 no matter what, is going to be less than half of what I used to handle. Exactly because I was in the position of having a heavy scope ...

To plunge or not to plunge!? The new telescope dilemma

Hi all, I am making a decision the next few days to either go for a c11 or the c9.25. My reason for considering the C11 is: 1.bigger aperture/light gathering 2. OTA weight is 12.4kg ( Still manageable...barely). The CPC11/9.25 I had before will be an overkill. OTA and fork mount is 20+kg already wit...

Re: C11 and C9.25

Sure, cc and orly, let's catch up and go obbing together. Possible after 14 of Jan ( away in Taiwan from 31 Dec onwards). That time will also be better as my equipments will probably still be under servicing. I am a bit out of touch though as I have not been observing for 2 years:)

Cheers!
