Further to my post above, perhaps the IR filter referred to in Mr. TG Tan's website operates differently from the IR-Cut filter shown on the Grandeye website.

I think Mr. Tan's homemade filter, made from exposed film, only allows infra-red light to pass, resulting in black-and-white looking images.
