Re: DSO imagery from Mersing

Excellent images, Ivan!

I esp like the colours: very natural and lots of depth.

Images are v clean too.

Keep up the good work!

Re: Bidding of Explorer Scientific 30mm 82 eyepiece for EF20

To get things going, I'm putting in a starting bid of $100.

(As stated on the event thread on EF2015, even if I'm outbid, I pledge $100 to the Singastro fund.)

Re: EQUIPMENT FESTIVAL 2015 (29TH NOVEMBER SUNDAY)!!!

That's a very nice gesture! And a great idea.

I feel inspired by it. I'll now put in a starting bid of $100 on the Buy & Sell thread. Even if I'm outbid, I hereby pledge $100 to the Singastro fund, to be paid soon after the event.

Let's support Singastro!

Re: Pluto probe launch Tuesday night

Finally, New Horizons' closest approach to Pluto (at 12,500km) has taken place this evening (Tues 14 July 2015)! I watched the live coverage of the closest approach commemoration on NASA TV via UStream just now, with closest approach taking place at 1149UTC (7.49pm Singapore time). This has been tru...

Re: Pluto probe launch Tuesday night

Finally, after a wait of over 9 years, we're down to just 23 hrs to New Horizon's closest approach, at 7.49pm S'pore time tomrw, Tues 14 July 2015! I can still remember watching the lift-off of New Horizons 'live' at 3am Spore time on 20 January 2006. We were all that much younger back then! See her...

Re: Pluto probe launch Tuesday night

Good news! The New Horizons probe has returned new images after recovery from the glitch. Here's the latest publically available image taken by the monochrome LORRI imager on 7 July, at just 7.8 million km from Pluto and only 7 days before closest approach on 14 July. I then processed the image and ...

Re: Pluto probe launch Tuesday night

Hi Rich, according to Nasa, the glitch happened because New Horizon's primary computer was overloaded with too many tasks sent from mission controllers, and the probe went into safe mode; here's an interesting account of Nasa's media briefing on the glitch: http://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakda...

Re: Pluto probe launch Tuesday night

Presenting below... perhaps one of the most detailed image of Pluto and Charon thus far. I've enhanced the very latest publically available raw image of Pluto and Charon from the New Horizons website, using Photoshop's unsharp mask, sharpening and colour picker tools. Image taken from the LORRI tele...

Re: Pluto probe launch Tuesday night

With just 3 weeks to go before the 14 July fly-by, NASA has released a colour animation of Pluto and Charon. This is derived from New Horizons images taken in end-May / early June at a distance of about 50 million km (about 0.3 AU). http://www.nasa.gov/feature/pluto-and-its-moon-charon-now-in-color ...
