yeah there's some guy over on the AP yahoogroup who captured two nights shots of M95 - and the SN is visible in the second night but not the first!

Re: Supernova 2012aw discovered in M95
I think I managed to image Supernova SN 2012aw in M95 last night.
Here is the image with annotations on some surrounding stars.
Imaging details: Meade LX-90 8" SCT f/10, Canon EOS 60D at ISO 1600, 15s.
Taken from Singapore city centre on 22 March 2012 at 13:02UTC (9:02pm local time).
Based on a comparison of these stars, I think the supernova was at approx mag 12.7
The core of the host galaxy M95, at approx 33 million light years from Earth, can be seen below-left of the suspected supernova as a smudge. The supernova was almost as bright as its host galaxy!
Below the image is a screenshot from TheSky planetarium software showing M95 and surrounding stars.

Amazing...it must be shining the equivalent of thousands of stars to be able to be seen at 12 mag from 33 mil light yrs. away..
