One of the respected individuals who have contributed most of their life to astronomy, Sir Patrick Moore has passed.
I thank him for his immaculate contribution and hopes he rests well.

wow..he has been around so long it never occurred to me he will not be around one day. Sad to see an icon go. No one can claim to have been on a TV series and personally hosting it for 50 years! I have a b/w episode of his "Sky At Night" TV series way back in the 50s/60s. Seems he was still hosting he show last Monday. He will be missed. Rest peacefully amongst the stars now, Sir Patrick Moore.

Lucky you to have met him twice! Did these take place in Singapore? What years and occasions?

I would have liked to have met him too. The other TV person i hope to meet is Sir David Attenborough, the BBC's natural history presenter. Unfortunately, the main newspaper here seems to have a habit of announcing famous persons' presence here after they've left.

Other historical persons I would like to have met include Sir Edmond Halley and Alfred Wallace, but unfortunately they were well before our era....haaa.

When I was in Sec 2 back in the 80s, I did some work for the school Maths & Science Society. In return, the Society allowed me to choose either of 2 gifts as token of appreciation. I dun remember what the other gift was, but the one I chose was an astronomy book by Sir Patrick Moore. Subsequently, this kindled my interest in astronomy for the next 20 over years...till now.

Still recall he was here to officiate the 'opening ceremony' of the Science Centre telescope and observatory.

RIP Sir.
