Mersing is more convenient because you can set up right outside the chalet.
The downside is the chalets in Mersing are quite run-down.
Sedili chalets are better (although still quite low-grade by hotel standards.. but that's just me) but.. the area to set up is quite far, and is in a rough spot. There is power though but there also is a fish farm next to it which may have the lights on all night.
In terms of darkness.. I haven't noticed much difference. Both places are way better than Singapore that (personally) I think sky darkness should not be a factor - the convenience etc. is more of a factor.
Mersing is much further away - more than an hour additional drive.
end of the day... for me, both places are not ideal. But Mersing is probably a better bet for the simple reason that you can park and setup right outside the chalet.
