Determining the movement Stars

Post by lucasng13 »

I'm just curious if it's possible for a telescope to determine the distance between stars as I would like to know if there is a change of the distance between the stars as time goes by. Thanks !

Hi,
Welcome to SingAstro!

You can find the distance of the star by using Parallax method. Below website got a more detail description:
http://www.astronomynotes.com/starprop/s2.htm

But I'm not sure whether we can do it ourself as most our instrument are not so accurate and precise... may be only on some of the nearest stars.

Have a nice day.

Thanks very much for your answer! However, i would like to know which telescopes can measure the distance between stars. It doesn't have to be precise, just a rough estimate.
