Right Angle Sweep Method

Post by bharat »

I read about the "Right Angle Sweep" method for finding celestial objects. This involves calculating the shift in the Dec and RA of the taget object from the known object that can be easily spotted in the scope. With the shift in DEC and RA known, the view is first shifted by the indicated number of fields in declination and then shifted by the indicated number of fields in right ascension.

Is this method commonly used with EQ mounts? I also read that a rough polar alignment is good enough to use this method. Does anyone have experience to share?

Here's the link to the website I looked at - http://netdial.caribe.net/~adrian2/rightanglesweep.html
