Just came back from Borders. Just to clarify, the 3 copies of Backyard Astronomer's Guide is the August 2008 First Printing edition. That is NOT the latest September 2010 edition. Both editions are called Third Edition. The latest Sept 2010 edition have chapters like astro apps for iphone:

On a separate note, for Star Trek fans (which I am not ), the 2011 Star Trek calendar is out at the main door area. 15% off. Got some classic photos there. The gun look so ...er..."high tech". LOL

Thanks Gary. I would reckon any changes entail a new edition moniker whereas if they are the same edition, then its only a reprint? So confirm they are different? Just checked and mine is th 2002 "Revised edition" (inside the cover its listed as "second edition")Gary wrote:Just came back from Borders. "The occasion is the release in September 2010 of a new and revised version of The Backyard Astronomer's Guide. This latest version is still called "Third Edition" and looks the same on the outside. But inside, lots of chapters have received updates to text and photos, to update content from the original Third Edition printing which came out in August 2008. That printing sold out by summer 2010 (thank you all!). Rather than just reprint the book, we were also able to revise it for the second printing."

Just came back from Borders at Wheelock. They have removed the ugly black "warning" messages from the floor and added more black sofa seats.Airconvent wrote:That's what happens when everyone start treating the bookstore like a library and worse, allowing unsupervised kids to damage or wear downs books so they become unsellable. I've seen this in action all the time. Imagine buying a "brand new" copy of your Backyard Astronomers's Guide and many people have already read it before you bought it.
At some point in time, when people are not buying enough books to justify the space for chairs and sacrificial browsing copies, that's when they do what you indicated above.
