Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park - potential sidewalk venue

Post by Gary »

Hi Friends. This may be a good location for sidewalks. Anyone been there in the evening to see how dark/bright the park is?

Seems like a good place for some birding also.

Found this nice Flickr photo album of the new park taken by Wang GuoWen. The night shots are very nice too.

Lately, i been doing my viewing at bishan park field. the field across mac.
very nice open fields.
great for planetary viewing.
armed with a 80mm refractor, was able to see M42.

As i m still new to astronomy, i dont know how dark enough it really needs to be.

Been there a few times, even at night. The streetlamps are there as usual, but nothing worse than our Toa Payoh Library spot. Mosquitoes abound, it's a construction site the last time I went there in September just before I flew. Another thing to note is there isn't a carpark in the park itself, so you have to park in the neighbourhood and drag your equipment in. Otherwise, it's a great spot.
Stargazing ... is an excuse to stay up past bedtime that never fails!

Excellent initiative Dave & friends! It is about time the residents of Bishan Ang Mo Kio got served!

Base on just one quick night recce of the park, I am already very impressed with the sidewalk potential of that place. Fellow forum members, please give them your best support online and offline by joining/liking their facebook page and spreading the word to your friends especially those staying around Bishan AMK area.

If the event is on tonight, I will be there.

********************************************

The park is known as Bishan - Ang Mo Kio park. But for most people, they just refer to it as Bishan Park. There are two parts of this park. One is known as the River Plains, the other is Pond Gardens.

Dave's sidewalk location will be in the River Plains portion.

River Plains --> http://goo.gl/kP1oi (official map from Nparks)

How to get to the exact observation spot in River Plains:

- Look for the prominent MacDonalds restaurant. A "house" like structure with a small yellow in the map. It is at one end of the bridge.

- Imagine if you are at MacDonalds, just cross the bridge and immediately turn right and walk along the path until you see the sidewalkers.

This is the Pond Gardens map --> http://goo.gl/a60mo (official map from Nparks)

No worries Dave. Touch wood if the weather is no good tonight, I may still go there alone to do more recce and night photography.

You guys think of a nice, easy to remember and fun twitter name and register yourselves on Twitter. Very efficient way update the public in addition to FB. :)

if the weather is no good [smilie=crying2.gif] (Touch Wood), i may also be going to bishan park to recce the Pond Gardens area, there is one area which i think has the potential and if i have time will also be going to the River Plains to snap some photo of sidewalk areas for the FB account and Singastro. (=

Will sure think of a fun name for the twitter account. (=
