That the trouble with Singapore--always looking at that GDP figure.None of our kampong survive,Merdeka bridge lion gone no where,Nanyang-old- university totally unrecognizable,Singapore river mouth area totally gone, national threatre gone,--too numerous to mention.Think of the carbon print of such changes. In fact one of my NZ friend ask me if Singaporean ever value their cultural past at all and he told me that he come here to see how Asian live and judging from what he see, they dont seem to value their past and considers his journey useless for he is never able to see a thing of the past. The area of the 'past' is filled with nothing but restaurant, bars, karaok or those selling gift item to tourist only.Disappointing.

East coast is one area where people from all parts of SG like to visit for leisure and relax. Yup....believe many people will be sad to see the place go.

I read that the Church group Touch Communities own the whole cluster there, so not too sure if they are selling off the property to lock in the profit or the land is being taken back by the authorities for further development. I was told previously they intended to reclaim the land and extend the beach further out, so that they can release a long stretch of land for sea side housing but with sand being scarce, I don't think it will happen, especially since I see them upgrading the park. Anyone can clarify?

Might be related to this in some way:

"Admiralty Park, East Coast Park and Jurong Lake Park will be developed into large regional parks, offering recreational features not usually found in public parks."

Yeah..just saw the news on TV today. They are redevelping the whole place. Hopefully they will not take forever. That cluster is the centre of gravity for the East Coast Park! But luckily not where we usually observe from :)

I am quite glad for it. The whole place looks tacky and is falling apart.
