Lenses typically have a coating. I think polishing it will affect that.
You can bring it to The Camera Workshop in Peninsula. They may be able to help.
cheers

Was this len's coating yellow previously?
Back in the old days before new technology in coatings was available, some manufacturers like Pentax OEM use a low level radioactive substance to give the lens anti CA properties. However, with time, this material turns yellow.
The treatment is to leave the lens in the sun for a few days. Direct sunlight changes the yellow back to clear.

as far as i know.. polishing lenses need a constant flow of clean water. They also have a curved 'polishing block' in the shape of the lens and it's a highly specialised job.
