Astromart Charges for access!

Post by Airconvent »

Astromart shut down due to "maintenance" the past few days and when it came back, they are now requiring payment to access their website including existing users, not just new registrations as was the previous policy.
The charge is US$12. Its not indicated if its a one-time charge or annual fee.

You know,these people think that we armature astronomer can earn a few millions a year but the reality is that this hobby is one with no financial returns.Only interest in knowledge--and perhaps interest in photography for some--drive us on.Regretible.

tell me about it... I also paid the $12 to regain access.

people have been complaining about Herb York's heavyhanded tactics literally for years. In 2002-2003 I was already hearing about it.

but I guess everyone will be like us and pay up.

@croys --- EC2 is NOT cheap.

I just paid $440+ for my EC2 March charges.

If you have a single "EC2 Large" instance at $0.35/hour, if you run it for an entire month it will cost $250+ USD. That's already more expensive than having your own dedicated server from Rackspace.
