Review: Intelliscope Push-to mount

Post by Meng Lee »

I have finally tested the Intelliscope after months of having it.

http://www.telescope.com/control/produc ... t_id=24612

Let me just be short:

Pros:

1) Detailed instructions on how to set the "home position" marking point
2) No need polar alignment
3) No need to level mount
4) no need Longtitude & latitude
5) Keypad easy to use
6) 4 different brightness of keys
7) 3 stars alignment will get you accurately there
8) No need BIG ampere hour batteries, the 9V can last for months, because you push the mount.
9) Cheaper than GOTO

Cons:

1) Software not upgradable?
2) Does not correct for cone error and Push-To accuracy depends on the cone-error
3) Cone error can be corrected on your own (instructions are also given) but troublesome.

Conclusion:

For the visual observer who wants to minimise carrying and maximise observations, this is highly recommended. No dead batteries in the middle of GOTO. Slow motion knobs and clutch can be used as encoders are keeping track of the movement. If cone error is corrected, then getting the object in view at around 80x shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,

Good question. First I bought the Intelliscope kit thinking that it might fit my GPD, the dec encoders may fit, but the RA side is out of question. So in the end, I went to get a Skyview Pro mount head from Astromart.
