Hi friends,

With just 2 more weeks to go, decided to do a short FAQ Venus transit which is happen on the 6th June 2012 for the newer members in the forum. Feel free to add if i have not covered enough on the topic. 

What is Venus transit?

It is an astronomical phenomenon where planet Venus would across the sun. During the transit, the planet Venus can be seen from earth as a small black disk moving across the sun. 

What is a transit?

A transit is similar to a solar eclipse by the moon

When is the next Venus transit after the 5/6 june 2012?

Venus transit are among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena. It would be an event of a lifetime. The next Venus transit would only be happening on 10-11 december 2117. 

Viewing time of Venus transit in Singapore?

We would miss the 1st contact. 

All timing are in Singapore standard time

Ingress: 
1st contact @ 6:09 am (not visible in singapore)
2nd contact @ 06.27 am (not visible in singapore, only visible after sunrise)

Greatest @ 09.28 am

Egress:
3rd contact @ 12.31 pm
4th contact @ 12.49 pm

How am i able to view the Venus transit?

A solar filter attached  a telescope, binos or a camera.

er.. so this is on 6 June for us right?

i don't have a clear east view from home. Anybody going to do some sidewalk activity?

and where can I get more baader film?

Yes. 6 of June Singapore Time. Some of us *MAY* be doing Venus Transit sidewalk event on that day. Will post more info closer to the date. Else, just join the "big 3" event locations -- SSC, GCC, NUS.
