buyee.jp is a forwarder site not unlike 65daigou.
That C8 set is a very good price. I would love to get it minus the GP mount. Pity I don't read Japanese plus the shipping to Singapore would have been quite high. :)
Yea, it's a hit or miss thing.

I, myself got this at 44200 yen: http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/r120112209
Item price: 40,000 yen
Buyee service price: 4000 yen
Payment fee: 200yen

For the shipping fees: 16,418 yen
International Shipping Fee: 14,200 yen
Shipping Insurance Fee:50 yen
Domestic Shipping Fee: 2,168 yen (within Japan to forwarder)

Total cost in yen: 60,618 yen
In SGD: 693.42 SGD

For an early 70s OT 8" in original footlocker (and thrill of its unknown state)?
Priceless.

The C8 should arrive this week. But without a mount, I don't think I can do a star test yet.

Or you should get this: http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/f144949270/lang/en .

Just noticed it with the binoviewer! Get the whole set and I buy the mount off you?

Got my C8 today. Cosmetics wise it is a beauty, made in mid 70s. However, primary objective has a few spots of fungus with the glass that is holding the secondary fogged up.

Looks like a servicing is in order to restore this to its former glory. Anyone knows where can this be done and the cost? Astro.com.sg does it, but I would like to have options.

Charlie,
The price is really attractive at first but if you include the cleaning, the advantage is reduced drastically. I have previously asked Albert about cleaning of OTA. If I remember correctly, the cost is between $500 to $1000 but he claims to be able to restore the optics to mint condition including cleaning of the OTA body internally and externally and alignment.
I myself would rather just buy a better condition set and save the trouble. But of course if your motivation is buying vintage, that's different!

Do check out with Joo Beng and see how much he charges. If his price is better, maybe I ask him to clean up my C6 also...haha.

It's strange. There used to be so many orange C8 OTAs in Singastro previously but now has all dried up. I suspect most are languishing in their dry boxes everywhere.

Meanwhile, if a C8 deal does come along, do let me know if you not taking it... :) I prefer to get an SE OTA as the orange OTA holes are not the same, hence the standard dovetail bar will not fit without some drilling...

Yea, I thought of getting a more cleaner and maintained set as well but I'm a sucker for vintage stuff, especially when they come in original set. Lol

Joo Beng quoted between 200 to 250sgd, that is before seeing the condition. We'll know once he's back from his eclipse trip in April.

IIRC there are 2 common types of fungus, 1 of which their waste product permanently remove the anti-reflection coating.
SGD 900 is pretty close to the production cost of a modern synta c8.

Hopefully its a fungus Joo Beng can handle then!
