Hi,

Usually the fungus will grow on the low pass/IR-cut filter first which is before the sensor and not on the sensor itself, but guess that Canon is not going to only change the filter alone as it's glue onto the sensor unit... change the whole sensor unit with the filter on it is easier.

Have a nice day.

hmm i got a friend of mine to clean the cmos.
on opening the shutter, i saw the fungus immediately.
cleaned it and its gone!!!!! tried taking photos and everything is back to normal again. But just to play safe that it won't grow again anytime soon, think better to get canon to clean it thoroughly.

pfft. typical of canon to say "it can't be fixed, blah blah blah"

thing is.. you don't even need to send it to Canon. IR-mod it (remove the IR cut filter and replace with plain glass). Camera Workshop does this for a fee.

you will get rid of the front glass which had the fungal growth.. AND it will become a fantastic astro-camera. You can still use it for regular photography with a custom white balance.
