See you guys tonite. Weather still looks good.
I wld be one of the volunteers, keeping fingerprints away!
I'll bring a lunar atlas in case we get asked questions about the names of craters and lunar 'seas'.
For the traditionalists, pls remember to bring cooking pots along to bang them out loud and protect the poor Moon, it would be under seige tonight. Ha!
For info, here are the eclipse timings from Sky & Telescope:
Partial eclipse begins: 8.45pm S'pore time, i.e. Moon starts to enter into Earth's shadow (umbra). The 'bite' begins!
Start of totality (entire Moon within Earth's shadow): 10.05pm
Middle of totality: 10.32pm
End of totality, Moon starts to exit from Earth's shadow: 10.57pm
End of eclipse, Moon fully moves out of Earth's shadow (umbra): 12.18am

Re: An invitation to ECLIPSE at ONE FULLERTON
Something for us to try to look out for:
"... the northern half of the Moon will appear much darker than the southern half because it lies deeper in the umbra.
Since the Moon samples a large range of umbral depths during totality, its appearance will change dramatically with time. It is difficult to predict the brightness distribution in the umbra, so observers are encouraged to estimate the Danjon value at different times during totality (see Danjon Scale of Lunar Eclipse Brightness). Note that it may also be necessary to assign different Danjon values to different portions of the Moon (i.e., north vs. south). "

Re: An invitation to ECLIPSE at ONE FULLERTON
thanks for the info Gavin! looks like a bluesky morning for a start... may expect a Danjorn value of 1.5 during umbral interaction... but magnitude reduction is estimated at 1.1 at totality.... not deep red possibly orangey red hues... nevertheless perfect opportunity for everyone, both visual, and photographic. clear skies ahead! all welcomed to attend. let's catch up, and make new friends too! hope to see those whom never met in years too! cheers.

Re: An invitation to ECLIPSE at ONE FULLERTON
Many thanks to the Eclipse Crew organisers for a fabulous night of astronomy!
It was the most memorable lunar eclipse viewing experience I've had. It was that much more special because it happened during prime time (a Saturday night at 9pm+) and the weather was near perfect, and with excellent company. Considering we're right in the monsoon season, the good weather was quite unexpected: it was nearly completely cloud free the entire evening. Many of us therefore managed to catch the entire eclipse from the start of the umbral eclipse, on to totality, and then to the end of the umbral eclipse.
The setting too was fabulous, right by the bay with the new Sands resort and the Singapore Flyer providing the terrestial backdrop.
Here is a shot which I took when the Moon was at around mid-totality.
And here is a montage of 9 different images of the Moon at various stages of the eclipse. The one in the middle is of the Moon during the total eclipse. I took these images with a cheap and not-so-very good Tamron 75-300mm lens at 300mm, on a Canon EOS 60D.

wow guys..I'm sorry I missed the event at Fullerton but was somewhere else but I managed to catch it using my bino from the start till the red moon.
The next time would be 2 years away. And yes...it seems like out singastro celebrity Weixing has done it again..he is the most reported member now with mentions in the Chinese, English and even the Malay papers! Keep it up Wexing! And thanks to the guys who organised the event too. I am pretty sure it was as hard hard work as it was enjoyable to see the eclipse too.

@starfinder: Nice photos! Thanks for sharing! What a great feeling it is knowing that the sky is clear for all eclipse events in Singapore and from TV news reports, it is clear in a lot of other countries too! What a great astronomical treat to raise astro awareness globally.
@Weixing: So Yan Dao!!!! Haha. The happy and excited expressions in the video say it all! Great job!
