Chinatown sidewalk session (Jalan Kukoh)

Post by shirox »

Hi guys,

A group of us is planning for a sidewalk session at chinatown area, Jalan Kukoh void deck.
This is the map to the site,

https://maps.google.com.sg/maps?q=1.287 ... 1&t=m&z=18

Date: 18th May 2013 (SAT)
Time: 10:00pm
Location: Jalan Kukoh Blk 8A MSCP 4th level Void Deck
Highlights:
First light on a 2nd Hand Intes MN61 on Saturn and when it clears to 11am, Omega Centauri, if clear sky

Other scopes will be joining in the fun.
Parking is available on the 3rd level, just walk 1 level up.
Should you need to trolley your gears to the 4th level, there is lift on all 3 sides of the HDB to use.

This is the first time I am hosting a Sidewalk session below my house, I'm not sure if it will be an idea place. Overhead is unobstructed and lights around the area shuts down after 930 leaving the pavillion lights only.

Do join us if you can!

Woo...looks dark! Awesome.

In any case, for sidewalks, brighter objects are usually the main targets. So you may not need to be overly concerned about darkness of observation site. Bringing the telescopes closer to places with more human traffic but at the same time not so far away from your place that discourages you from setting up may be more important.

It is still important to find the darker, closer to home, lesser human traffic areas. They can be very suitable for private testing of astro gear (especially bigger setups) or for smaller private group observation where you do not wish to be "disturbed" by bystanders asking you lots of questions while you are trying to figure out how to use your new astro gear for the first time. Kind of like a testing ground before astro gear are "certified" for your prime-time sidewalk area. :)

Whatever your decision, your MN61 with the upgraded focuser will amaze and inspire the nearby residents to take up the hobby!

Hi Elton,
Location should be good as it is on an elevated spot. I park the car at Jln Kukoh 8A, daily before heading to Office. Just outside ERP Zone.

How long have you been staying there ?
I stayed at blk 8 from 1971-1977.
The 4th floor open space was always full of soccer enthusiast.
Is it the same now?
