SuperMoon event at Bishan Park tonight. 23 June. 7:30pm-11pm

Post by Gary »

Hi Friends.

Weather and haze permitting, we are having a Super Moon event at Bishan Park tonight Sunday 23 June at open ground in front of McDonald's. From 7:30pm - 11pm. Feel free to drop by and have fun.

Please bring/wear your face masks along in case of changes in the haze situation. The air-conditioned McDonald's is very nearby so one can go in to avoid the haze if need be. Their outdoor section is also well ventilated with ceiling fans.

May not be to update this thread if there is any last minute changes and updates. If the turn out is good, I may not have time to check my sms/whatsapp messages or pick up calls. So please check/follow my twitter/blog for the latest updates.

Wishing you guys a happy Super Moon wherever you are!

Thanks Gary. You are so on-the-ball I can even imagine you wearing a full gas-mask conducting obs sessions in a hazy skies looking at local nebula ...:)
Please make sure to bring your masks as indicated fellas. The PSI has been increasing slowly since last night.

Thanks for your words of encouragement! Too depressed by the haze past week. Need a bright moon to cheer me up. :)

Before 7:30pm, use an accurate compass (or phone app), locate and face 110 degrees (East-South-East), make sure the Moon is not obstructed and pray for clear skies!

It will located at about 4 degrees above horizon - about half the vertical length of an extended fist.

Continue to enjoy Super Moon as it rises higher into the sky where it will be clearer due to thinner atmosphere.

Thanks to all telescope volunteers, helpers and friends who attended the sidewalk! Non-stop queues from 7:30pm till about 10:30pm. What a thrill with such a massive crowd. Some even came for this event from as far as Tampines. Beautiful sight to see so many cameras on tripod pointed at the Super Moon shortly after moon rise. Had fun making new friends. Sky was clear enough to even observe Saturn for hours.

One of the most amazing change of weather (haze) I have encountered so far. Who would have thought this event was even possible when the PSI hit 401 last Friday? This will definitely be one of my top 10 sidewalks of all time. :)

Some phone pics of the event and Super Moon:
