oh full moon, oh full moon. with u hanging in they sky, all the other stars just shy away.. almost couldnt see any stars from my bedroom. just one or 2 faintly dotted the sky.

looking at the face of the moon, all i can see are just patches of white n gray, with some visible craters around the side. those smaller craters which are cisible near the terminator during the half moon phase are not there anymore.. it just looks as if the moon powdered its face with a nice foundation which masked all those small craters.

a beautiful full moon is just like a woman whom after applying some makeup has smoothen those small holes on its face. while the larger craters cant be easily masked

Jupiter Transit.. cant see the GRS.. [smilie=desperate2.gif]

not sure if it is because collimation not done properly or a barlow 2x with a 8mm televue has reduced too much contrast that i can only see the 2 bands.. and focusing is really hard on such high magnification. tried to boost it higher using a barlow 2x with a 4mm hyugen. when focused, just let it drift down to keep vibrations at a minimal. still no GRS.. the elusive GRS, hope the next time can have a good look at it.

4mm + 2x barlow. Unless the primary mirror is of high quality, else not many mass-produced 6" newtonians can take this kind of magnification beyond the general thumb rule of 50x per inch of aperture.

Don't worry. Plenty of time to keep trying. Especially during Jan 2014 Jupiter opposition when the apparent disc of Jupiter is bigger than this morning. :)

woke up at 6am to find... barely clear skies~~ stars are out!! orion is near the zenith. jupiter has risen high and both are out of my scope's range. saw Sirius and Canopus.
tried to obs with scope and saw part of the puppis constellation. sweeping the skies with the bino, i can see more..

it seems like it is clear near the zenith and very thin clouds first, and slowly gets thicker, veiled the sky as we are moving down to the horizon.. at least i can still see Io thru the bino.. a consolation..

2 nights ago, saw the blurred crescent moon and venus behind cloud cover.. it was nice.. visible yet shrouded in mystery.. makes you like want to slowly peel off the layers of cloud to reveal the prizes behind it.
