Tanjung Sutera Resort on 31 Aug 2013

Post by rlow »

Yesterday on 31 Aug 2013, I drove up to Tanjung Sutera Resort together with Kochu. Road traffic was light along the way despite that it was Malaysia's National Day. It was already dark when we arrived, and we were relieved to see that the resort lights were switched on. Everything seemed to be back to normal, except one small building was gone. The night sky was very clear and we could distinctly see the whole Milky Way stretched across the sky from Scorpius to Cygnus even though we were not dark-adapted as we just emerged from the car next to the brightly-lit dining area. We then drove up to our favourite observation spot beside the fish farm building which is still not lit at night. I took out a small tracking mount to try out some test shots before we head back to Singapore.

Thanks for the report! Good to hear that the resort is still operating, but my gosh, they really went ahead to take down the building.

Here's an article about the matter:

But let's not debate the merits of it on this forum. Shhh....

Just think about the splendid views of the night sky we get there!

Thanks guys. I was fortunate to get these shots quite alright though I only did rough polar alignment by line-of-sight. No noise reduction were done for the raw files. Actually these are my first shots on a tracking mount. I will try more shots next time.

We are thankful that peace had been restored and we still have this wonderful resort to stargaze from and do astro-imaging. We will be planning another trip this weekend...
