International Sidewalk Astronomy Night 2014

Post by Avarielle »

March 8 marks the 7th International Sidewalk Astronomy Night. And this year's event has been dedicated to the memory of John Dobson, the person who made sidewalk astronomy what it is today.

We will be holding an event at Bishan Park. Weather and haze permitting of course.

Date: 8th March, Saturday
Location: Our usual spot in front of the McDonalds at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park
Time: 8pm till late

Feel free to drop by with or without telescope.

Of course, if you'll be holding an event elsewhere. Feel free to add your event to this thread. :)

Thanks to Ava for hosting a very successful ISAN 7 in Singapore!

We had so much fun showing the public Moon, Jupiter and Mars. The slight haze turns out to be an astro-blessing in disguise. The seeing was pretty good. Fantastic view of Jupiter and GRS through the 8-inch GOTO Dob with a newly upgraded 2-speed focuser. Even the live view through mobile phones look good, especially the Samsung Notes. Thanks to HL for sharing his dob + premium eyepieces selflessly with the public. Also thanks to Dave and John for setting up their telescopes to spread the astro love!

Glad to make some new friends locally and from overseas. It is very encouraging to see children bringing their own telescope and join us in the sidewalk session. And their parents so supportive of their hobby.

Somewhere up there, John will be smiling at all the ISAN volunteers across the world and say "that's what you amateur astronomers have to do anyway!" :)
