Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.
I'm now tempted to head down to Changi Beach CP1 on Sat night with 2 DSLRs - 1 to do time astrophotography and 1 to video the moon! Problem is... our Moonrise is only at 2.15 am?
Yes, if our Moon does indeed get pelted by the dust, we may be in for a nice little session of fireworks. However, the dust particles are reported to be pretty small and any impact on the Moon will likely be seen as tiny dots of light unless you're seriously zoomed in on the right spot.
Still, no reason to not be up at 3 or 4am over the weekend! (especially if we're only going to get this one chance to experience this level of density from Camelopardalids ever!)
Do you guys think Pulau Ubin would be suitable to catch a glimpse of the Camelopardalids meteor shower? I have planned to go over there as the skies are slightly darker there. However the contesllation Camelopardalids is somewhere near the North star right? meaning to say that I have to camp at either Noordin or Mamam campsite instead of Jelutong campsite(the nearest to the jetty), since they are facing the Northern skies? Please help
Well, the Camelopardalis constellation (i.e. the giraffe) is marker for where the meteor shower is believed will be originating from (i.e. looking at it during the event would result in what looks like a shower of meteors).
However, if last night is any indication.. by 10 p.m., Camelopardalis would have dipped below the horizon. What we might end up with would be something less than the full magnitude - which would be the case anyway regardless since the peak is supposedly happening in our daytime.
We're hoping that the astronomers have gotten it wrong and the peak is scattered across different times (like hiccups instead of a peak).
Either way, looking North would be a good bet. Because we're at the Equator, Polaris would sit pretty low on the horizon so moving to a location that allows you a lower horizon view is definitely preferred.
