Wow! You are suffering from aperture fever. :)

I see if I have chance to go down and take a peek. Got to settle my children to bed first.

The event will not be happening tonight Fri 3 Oct, as the work on the dob is not yet completed.

I will update again once it is done.

Meanwhile thanks for all the feedback, folks.

Date for 22" dob public debut is weather pending....

Well, since you asked. I will fill you in on the current status....

So far I've done most of the major DIY upgrades:
1. trimmed poles - done it twice
2. added edge protectors
3. extended light shroud
4. trimmed teflon blocks
5. added 3 light baffles for UTA & mirror box
6. upgraded to stainless steel bolts
7. trimmed altitude bearings, now doing sanding & varnishing.

Now we are quite ready for first public debut in Singapore. Just waiting for super-typhoon and haze to clear.

Junwei, two-step would do, but for sidewalk outreach, I just bought a taller 5-step ladder.

Yeah, wow indeed. This scope had been six years in the making. I designed it and originally intended to build it myself but due to my busy work schedule, I got a friend in USA to build it for me based on my design. I'm still finetuning some details.
Richard,
So kind of you to have "pre-clouded" the scope so that we won't get cloudy skies as it will not be the first light when we see it! By the way, for the name, why limit to acronyms? Dobson built the "Dob", maybe yours can be called the "RLOW"(pronounced R-Low)..haha :)

Airconvent: current spell of poor weather caused by two typhoons and haze. The 22" dob caused bad weather around Seattle two weeks ago :)

Junwei: faint stuff are best seen in darker skies like Sedili. Big dobs pick up more light pollution, so the contrast does not improve for faint fuzzies.

All: we wil have 2nd light for another scope tonight. Its only 5.1" but very fine craftsmanship...and long wait :)

Let me know if anyone else would like to join us.
