Or a computer planetarium program such as Starry Skies backyard which lets you have real time, local star charts. Better yet load it onto a laptop and bring it outside.

haha, to learn about astronomy don't need such big money one, there's always something available in Singapore. It's called the "National Library". I have read what i have read mostly from Toa Payoh Library, since it's 10 mins from my home ;)
Some of the books are quite outdated stuff, yes, but stars are not outdated very easily. And it is better to learn outdated stuff that lament about no money and not reading at all! hehe
(Hint: Astro is dewey-decimal 510.00 to 519.99 in non-fiction category. Just head straight there and you'll find enough astro books for a year!)
