Meteors need no quipment. They are naked eye objects.
Comets are usually quite dim and small, so ya need some small scope or binos.

Yes, there is, the Draconids has just past and there are around 10 meteor showers in a year, but the more impressive ones are the Leonids and Geminids.
From my experience, the Leonids generates more meteors visible in ideal skies but the Geminids generates more earthgrazers and brighter meteors. These are the 2 meteor showers that i look forward to and they are coming again! WoOhOo!
